Marketing and Britannia Essay Example for Free

Marketing and Britannia Essay The story of one of Indias favorite brands reads almost like a fairy tale. Once upon a time, in 1892 to be precise, a biscuit company was started in a nondescript house in Calcutta (now Kolkata) with an initial investment of Rs. 295. The company we all know as Britannia today. The beginnings might have been humble-the dreams were anything but. By 1910, with the advent of electricity, Britannia mechanized its operations, and in 1921, it became the first company east of the Suez Canal to use imported gas ovens. Britannias business was flourishing. But, more importantly, Britannia was acquiring a reputation for quality and value. As a result, during the tragic World War II, the Government reposed its trust in Britannia by contracting it to supply large quantities of service biscuits to the armed forces. As time moved on, the biscuit market continued to grow†¦ and Britannia grew along with it. In 1975, the Britannia Biscuit Company took over the distribution of biscuits from Parrys who till now distributed Britannia biscuits in India. In the subsequent public issue of 1978, Indian shareholding crossed 60%, firmly establishing the Indianness of the firm. The following year, Britannia Biscuit Company was re-christened Britannia Industries Limited (BIL). Four years later in 1983, it crossed the Rs. 100 crores revenue mark. On the operations front, the company was making equally dynamic strides. In 1992, it celebrated its Platinum Jubilee. In 1997, the company unveiled its new corporate identity Eat Healthy, Think Better and made its first foray into the dairy products market. In 1999, the Britannia Khao, World Cup Jao promotion further fortified the affinity consumers had with Brand Britannia. Britannia strode into the 21st Century as one of Indias biggest brands and the pre-eminent food brand of the country. It was equally recognized for its innovative approach to products and marketing: the Lagaan Match was voted Indias most successful promotional activity of the year 2001 while the delicious Britannia 50-50 Maska-Chaska became Indias most successful product launch. In 2002, Britannias New Business Division formed a joint venture with Fonterra, the worlds second largest Dairy Company, and Britannia New Zealand Foods Pvt. Ltd. was born. In recognition of its vision and accelerating graph, Forbes Global rated Britannia One amongst the Top 200 Small Companies of the World, and The Economic Times pegged Britannia Indias 2nd Most Trusted Brand. Today, more than a century after those tentative first steps, Britannias fairy tale is not only going strong but blazing new standards, and that miniscule initial investment has grown by leaps and bounds to crores of rupees in wealth for Britannias shareholders. The companys offerings are spread across the spectrum with products ranging from the healthy and economical Tiger biscuits to the more lifestyle-oriented Milkman Cheese. This is because NutriChoice SugarOut is sweetened with Sucralose, derived from sugar, which provides the same sweetness as any other biscuit, without the added calories of sugar. This range is available in 3 delicious variants namely Lifetime, Chocolate cream, and Orange cream, targeted towards all health sensitive people. It is also relevant for consumers with sugar related ailments. Customers are pleasantly delighted with its great taste and equally surprised to know that it has no added sugar. Dont be taken for a ride when you read Sugar Free label on many biscuit packs marketed in India or abroad. Even with 100% no-added sugar, wheat-cereals in biscuits have their own natural sugar content. Britannia has chosen to represent these biscuits with No Added Sugar claim, as there is no added sugar in the processing of NutriChoice SugarOut. Britannia 50-50 Pepper Chakkar The launch of the latest 50-50 variant left everybody guessing What it eez? From TV ads, radio, outdoor and in-store display materials to events, a website and SMS and email blasts, traditional and new media were blended synergistically to create excitement and curiosity about the unique taste of the biscuit. The tangy and distinctive pepper flavoured biscuit, thats thin and crispy and more like a snack, caught the imagination of a younger audience craving something to nibble on. The 50-50 Pepper Chakkar launch is truly a case of leveraging the marketing mix to best advantage. Biscuits derive its name from a French word meaning twice backed bread; Biscuits in general have a good shelf life, which is higher than all other snack items available in the market. India is the second largest producer of biscuits in the world after the U. S. A. but still the per capita consumption is only 2. kg/year of developed countries. As per the latest survey done by N. C. Charity PESTEL Analysis and Recommendations

Charity PESTEL Analysis and Recommendations Dhreima Qatar The Volunteering in the Community Dhreima is one of the charities in Qatar. Its considered the best family of the orphans and the ideal environment for the children who are suffering from poverty in Qatar. Charity is the concept of giving. It makes the person who follows charity feels the suffering and hopelessness just like the others. The charity is pushing the person to change the situation from bad to good towards at least another persons life. Charity also gives the children a sense of happiness and satisfaction as well as inner peace. When volunteers show the impact of their charity towards the needed person, they are capable of giving by nature a sense of happiness to the charitable person. Charity has several shapes through which the person can offer the charity to another person who is in need. The objectives are the actions and aims of the charity any organization plans to achieve. Thus, each charity organization has its own objective which it tries to accomplish. For example, a charity is aiming to improve the children lives who suffer from poverty as well as saving them in the future. Therefore, the charitys objectives are to create a crisis line by building shelter or educating children about how to protect themselves and how to live by using safe ways without suffering from the poverty as well as working in good jobs. Thus, the activities of each charity should be devoted to these aims and draw the correct plans to achieve the goals. Another aim of this charity is to make the persons involved and volunteered in this work to feel the suffering and hopelessness of other children. This charity is pushing the person to change the situation into a better one to make children feel happier and safer. This charity also tries its best efforts to satisfy the children and accomplish their needs. The objectives depend on the level of children. The two main elements of this organization are adopted to guarantee the life of poor children as well as pushing them to happiness. Moreover, these organizations prepare and organize the perfect programs and activities to attract the attention of children through playing and other means of entertainment. The concept of charity is preached by all religions in the whole world. It is the way of bringing justice to society and justice is the main concept of Islam. Charity is divided in Islam into two forms; obligatory and voluntary. As a matter of fact, the voluntary part is known as Zakat and Sadaqa. Zakah, comes from the verb zaka, which means to be pure. In other words, Sadaqa refers to giving a part of ones money to help others who need help in order to secure their lives. The orphanage of Dhreima aims to integrate the Islamic system of care and shelter for the orphans into the Arab country, Qatar. This system is achieved by people who have the experience in accomplishing the satisfaction of the poor children after their suffering from poverty in their life. Charity has several shapes through which a volunteer can offer the charity to another person in need. Food charity is one of the most important charitable ways of helping others. This way can be achieved through feeding a hungry person or buying food along with offering it to a charitable organization that is responsible for feeding poor people. The other aspect of offering charity is through teaching illiterate people to learn how to read and write to help them get good jobs and improve their living conditions. Money is one of the most used aspects among people; it helps people to think about what they should give to the poor people as a kind of help. The other aspect of charity is the medical care, which is the most powerful aspect among the others because the more a person offers medicine to poor people, the more the person saves several lives and families from death. Political In fact, political events and situations could contribute in the development of Dhreima charity or lead to form obstacles that might impede the pace of work. From these obstacles are policies regarding charitable activities. In other words, volunteers, in Dhreima charity, might find themselves involved in political conflicts as many countries could impose constraints on the business of those charities as well as issues regarding financial transactions. Unfortunately, this could result in delaying work in executing programs and creating projects. Economic From the economic point of view, Dhreima charity could face problems in finding the right investors to invest their money in its projects and activities.ÂÂ   Furthermore, Dhreima might issues in balancing between the budgets and forming activities to children along with providing volunteers with the needed resources. Thats why it must start to announce its work to the public in addition to designing advertisements and commercials in different means of media to find enough money to accomplish success and development in work. It has also to find the perfect investors and business men and consider them as sources of money in order to encourage them to operate business. Social The social part could be seen in the point of view of Qatari and Arab people as who like to donate a lot of money to these charities especially orphanages. These donations dont have to take the form of money as they can take many shapes like offering their time to those children as well as giving them food. In fact, these orphanages provide people with the ability to serve God and the whole world through making children happy and achieve their needs. Technological Dhreima charity could have to deal with issues regarding technology as it might not have the perfect means of communication in order to contact its members and its investors. Another problem might be in the inability of volunteers to contact with poor orphans in the organization. Thats why Dhreima workers must do their best efforts to provide the charity with the required technological apparatuses such as computers and projectors. Legal The legal field can be determined in the fact that Dhreima must follow the guidelines and regulations stated by the Qatari government regarding charitable works and activities. Workers also have to respect these guidelines and not violate them in order not to be prone to any legal issues. Environmental The role of Dhreima is to keep the environment clean when conducting activities. It also teaches children about not polluting the environment while playing or having fun to keep the planet safe. The organization of Dheima is caring of the children who are orphans in the Qatar. This charity is progress many services which availability to them the good and safe life. Its considered the best family of the orphans and the ideal environment for the children who suffering from the poverty in Qatar. Charity is the concept of giving. It makes the person who follows charity that feels the suffering and hopelessness more the others. There is several charities which through them person can offer the charity to other person in need. Food charity is one of the most important charitable ways of helping others. This is through feeding a hungry person or buying food and offering it to a charitable organization that is responsible for feeding poor people. The other aspect of offering charity is teaching illiterate children to learn how to read and write anything to know minimum the beginning of the read and write to help them to know lives around the people after outing from this organization. Its also helping them in their future to getting good jobs and working in a good position, and also to improve their living conditions. Money is one of the most used and very important aspects among people in their future ; it helps the way of people can think what they should give to the poor people as a kind of help. The other aspect of the charity is the medical care, which is the most powerful aspect among the others because by helping in getting medicines to poor people the more the person saves several lives and families. Thus, this organization help children from their child to promotion their future and live a good life and have happiness their life. SMART recommendations for the development of the organization for which they are volunteering Strength Reputation of the charity in the state of Qatar. Number of activities and projects conducted by Dhreima orphanage. Weakness Financial problems. Finding good donators and investors. Constraints imposed by the Qatari government. Opportunities Using advertisements and commercials to attract more investors. Forming business and strong relationship with business owners and Arabs to encourage them to donate and invest their money. Threats Keeping children safe and offer them the right nutrition. Competition from other orphanages in the state of Qatar and in the whole world. Restraining of international business owners and organizations to invest their money in the activities conducted by the charity. 1 Dhreima must achieve the goal of attracting more investors in the state of Qatar to balance its budget and increase its activities. 2 The goal will be achieved by contacting ten well-known investors and will be evaluated through succeeding in getting in touch with these investors. 3 Attracting more investors who are interested in charity like owners of religious organizations to provide Dhreima with the needed resources. 4 When Dhreima manages to grab the attention of more donators, it will succeed in increasing the number of activities and projects for poor children which is the main objective of the organization. 5 This goal will be achieved within a year and the deadline will be five months from the determined period. I picked the third, fourth and fifth recommendations because Dhreima wouldnt be able to achieve its goals and policies without determining these elements. Through attracting the attention of religious organizations as they are considered the most interested organizations in the charity and voluntary work, Dhreima can be able to raise the number of projects. The time also has to be determined in order to achieve the goal perfectly and avoid the occurrence of any delay. Skills which can be developed while volunteering for such work can be: having the desire to help people and give more, dedicate time to poor children and having the ability to deal with different ages. SWOT for me as a volunteer Strength Dealing with different ages Loving charitable works Making other children happy Saving the lives of orphans and showing care to them Weakness Not being able to keep in touch with children Being shy or embarrassed when dealing with orphans for the first time Opportunities Getting encouragement from children and other volunteers to show more effort and work. Threats Not being provided with the needed resources Arousal of conflicts or fights between children or between I and the organization itself To sum up, charitable organizations are very important in any country all over the world. They provide people with the ability to serve others and offer them help. Children and orphans also feel happy when they get receive help from others. These charities also contribute in saving the countries from homelessness and poverty because they take good care of little children and protect their lives instead of letting them in streets. Thats why governmental authorities must encourage more these charities, offer them the needed resources, spread the awareness of importance of these organizations and finally attract the attention of investors and donators to invest their money in them. By following these steps, Dhreima and other orphanages will be able to offer more and give more to satisfy those kids and provide them with good care. References Anon., 2014. marhaba. Little Credibility Found in The Captain’s Quarterly Blog :: Website Evaluation Blog Blogging

Little Credibility Found in The Captain’s Quarterly Blog Captain Ed allows his emotions to overflow after Media Matters for America accuses Sinclair Broadcasting Group of partisan news programming. Sinclair airs The Point, a commentary featuring Mark Hyman, the spokesman and overseer of all of Sinclair’s Washington lobbing. Sinclair. Most of Sinclair’s 62 Stations are required to air every night during their local news. Captain Ed stated with an excellent argument, but quickly lost his credibility with name calling and childishness but even more with his ability to ignore logic and dispute truth with no relevant backing. Emotion can be a powerful tool in writing, if it can be harnessed and put into words. On the other side, emotion left unchecked, can destroy an entire work. The appeal of pathos and ethos in this essay did all the work for the opposing view. What is the best way to win an argument? Captain Ed will say it is to as quickly as possible call the people whom one is arguing against â€Å"lunatics† (Captains Quarters Blog 1). This is precisely what was done. When doing this the point that is being made is lost. It now has become a credibility issue. When writing an argument it is only logical to think the intended audience is the opposite view. Why would a writer blatantly attack its own audience? No the reader is trying to understand the other opinion not get verbally assaulted. Logic is necessary in any kind of argument. With out it the reader will only become confused and weary of any further reading of the authors. Captain Ed excellently points out that, â€Å"MMA and the rest of the lunatics seem to have overlooked one thing: The Point is a commentary, an editorial that does not pretend to be news reporting. Sinclair advertises it as such. In effect, MMA seeks to condemn Sinclair for doing exactly what newspapers and broadcast stations have done for decades -- editorialize as owners see fit† (Captains 1). This is an excellent example of a well written logos appeal. It is true commentary is editorial and bias but not news. However, the fact that was left out is really more important. These commentaries are aired during the local news. The local news is on every night for people to tune in and get a non bias report of what is going on around them. For Sinclair to force stations to air a biased commentary during the news is illogical.

SCREAM :: essays research papers

SCREAM starts out in the quiet country region of Woodsboro, California. The silence is soon broken by the ringing of a phone coming from the inside of Casey Becker's home. The conversation between Casey and the threatening Voice, eventually leads up to having Casey scared out of her wits and being gutted. Sidney Prescott learns about the murder, and also finds out it was almost as bad as the murder of her mother (Maureen Prescott), which occurred almost a year ago. Randy Meeks, Reporter Gail Weathers, and Deputy Dewey Riley all get mixed up in the story with Sidney. If you want to learn anything else about the movie, go WATCH IT!!!! Billy and Stu were obviously PSYCHOtic. Stu's motive for killing Casey and Steve is simple. Sweet revenge!!! Casey dumped him for Steve, although Stu claims he dumped her. Billy killed several people with admirable motives. He killed Maureen Prescott because she was having an affair with his father, which caused his mother to leave the family. Billy also killed Tatum with good reason. What's the use of having someone around that's always going to be moping about her dead best friend. It would get on their consciences and drive them crazy, not that they already are. The first murder that occurs, we do not have the pleasure of viewing, but we know the general gist of the story. Maureen was raped and brutally butchered with a hunting knife and was found in her bedroom, getting blood all over the covers. The next two murders were of Casey Becker and Steve Orth. Steve had his stomach ripped open with a knife and he was strapped to a patio chair with duck tape over his mouth. His intestines had been exposed and there was a pool of blood around the chair. Casey received precisely six phone calls before being gutted, yes WITH a hunting knife, and hung outside in her front lawn from a tree. Principal Himbry, the fourth victim, was stabbed seven times (again with a hunting knife) and hung from the school football goalpost. He was found around the time of Stu's party. The next lucky person was Tatum Riley, Dewey's younger sister and Sidney's best friend (ex). She had her arm sliced by a knife (I'll let you guess what kind) and was found in the garage's ki tty door with her head crushed.

Cowboys With Guns :: essays research papers fc

Cowboys with Guns during the Wild Wild West   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In the Old West, guns played an important role in the lives of cowboys. There were various kinds of guns that cowboys used. They fell into two categories: hand gun and rifle. The most common handguns were the Derringer and the Colt .45; as for rifles there was the Winchester. Most of the time guns were used for shooting animals for food or calming the cattle. Occasionally, a cowboy might have to use one against Indians or rustlers. On the trail most cowboys would have guns with them but they would leave them in the chuck wagon. (The chuck wagon was a cart that was usually in the back of the herd that held all of the cowboy’s goods.) They left the guns in the wagon because the guns were heavy and often times got in the way and could be dangerous while riding a horse. Most cowboys were not very good with guns and even one cowboy shot himself in the foot. The gun did come in handy though, especially when a stampede occurred. The cowboys would ride to the chuck wagon, grab their guns, and continue to the front of the herd where they would shoot three evenly spaced shots over the leader-cattle’s heads. This would usually stop the stampede. The Derringer was a small pistol with a large caliber that had two barrels, which were parallel horizontally or vertically. It could be laid in the palm of the hand and made a terrible wound when shot at close range. In some towns along the trail cowboys used Hideouts when they had to turn in their 6-Shooters. A Hideout was a Derringer that was hidden in the boot, a shoulder holster, waistband, or hung by a cord down the sleeve or coat. Cowboys would wear one so that if someone accused them of cheating they would be able to defend themselves. The Winchester was the term used for a rifle or carbine. This gun was one of the best-selling guns around. Some cowboys said that this gun could shoot for a week and not have to be reloaded. This, of course, was not true but this was said because the Winchester could hold quite a bit of ammunition. The Colt .45 was also a very common gun in the old west. Comparing and contrasting between two poems Essay

In this essay I am going to look at the differences and similarities between two cultural poems. I will look at the language used by the poets to describe the different cultures and I will also look at the imagery used to portray the cultures in the poems. The two poems I will be looking at is ‘Island man by Grace Nichols’ and ‘Blessing by Imtiaz Dharker’ The poem ‘Island Man’ is about a Caribbean Island man who lives in London and still wakes up to the sound of the sea and the poem ‘Blessing’ is about a third world country who have hardly any water and can’t wait for the water pipe to burst so that they can have some more water for a while. Island Man is broken up into four stanza’s with one line at the end on it’s own. The first stanza is where he is waking up after dreaming about the island and he is slowly coming back from his dream. In this stanza they have used a metaphor ‘wombing’, which is actually a made up word, however, this word makes you think that he could have possibly grown up here as the word gives the impression that he feels a sense of safety towards the island and so he could have grown up there. It also uses sibilance with the words ‘Surf, steady and wakes’. This creates a calm and gentle mood for the island where ‘Island Man’ possibly grew up. The second Stanza is also about him waking up from his dream and coming back from the island in his head and also expands on the image created in the first stanza. The first line ‘Wild seabirds’ gives you the feeling that on this island you are free and you can relax and have fun without being stressed out all the time. There is an adverb ‘defiantly’ used on the third line to describe the sun ‘Sun surfacing defiantly’ this is a lexical field, creating the image of independence or refusing to be organized. Also the word ’emerald’ has been used to describe the island, this suggests that the island is precious to him and that it has many vivid colours whish are really special to him. Then the last line of the second stanza is stood out from the rest of the poem ‘groggily groggily’ is used to describe the him coming back from the island to the stress of everyday life, and it emphasises the way that he doesn’t want t o come back. The third and fourth stanza’s are about him waking up from his dream about the island and realises that he is in London and not where he wants to be. ‘Grey metallic soar’ and ‘Dull, north circular roar’ are used to describe London as really dull and having a lack of colour, whereas the island appeared to be very colourful, for example ‘ Blue surf’ and ‘sun surfacing defiantly’ and ’emerald island’. Also in the third stanza the third line stands out from the rest of the poem ‘ Surge of wheels’, this is describing the sharp sound of London compared to the soft and relaxing sounds of the island. In the fourth stanza, the first and second lines link back to the island ‘muffling, muffling’ deadens the sharp sounds from earlier in the poem and ‘his crumpled pillow waves’, links to the sounds of the island, him thinking his pillow is the waves of the island. And finally the last line in the fourth stanza ‘island man heaves himself’ which is followed by the last line ‘Another London day’, Contrasts with wakes up and shows how much he really is longing to be on that island instead of in London and how he has to pull himself away from his island and begin another London day. The poem ‘Blessing’ starts with a similie which really emphasises the meaning of the poem ‘the skin cracks like a pod. There is never enough water’, onomatopoeia is also used with the word ‘cracks’ to add emphasis to show how desperate these people are for water. Like ‘Island Man’ the second stanza expands on the image created within the first two lines. The second line uses onomatopoeia twice, ‘splash’ and ‘echo’. This makes you realise how precious the water is to the people in the poem, especially when it says how they imagine the echo of it in a tin mug on lines 3-6, this really shows there desperation and longing for something everyone else would take for granted. In the third stanza, various metaphors are used to add emphasis to the previous stanza and also create a new image of how they react when they receive more water than they normally have. They describe the water as ‘silver crashing to the ground’, this shows how important the water is to the people, especially when the water is described as ‘silver’. The people are described as a ‘congregation’ to again add emphasis and show how much these people want the water and how desperate they are, this is shown again by using another metaphor on the very last line of the third stanza ‘frantic hands’, this again shows the desperate people trying to reach for the water. Finally, the fourth stanza describes how fantastic and amazing they find this water by using another metaphor to show how much they treasure the water ‘as the blessing sings over their small bones’, also in this final stanza it describes how poor they were and how little they had by saying that the children were naked and their ‘small bones’ could mean that they are really weak as they don’t have much to eat and obviously not enough to drink. Overall the two poems are fairly similar as they are both about people wanting things and longing for something that they don’t have. For instance in ‘Island Man’ he continuously dreams about the island where he possibly grew up and where he wants to be everyday instead of the dull and stressful life that he is currently living in London. Likewise in ‘Blessing’ the people who live in the poor country have hardly any water and are longing for water. A phrase from each poem could possibly link this to each poem, for example in ‘Island Man’ on the fourth line it says ‘In his head’ and in ‘Blessing’ on the third line it says ‘Imagine’. These phrases could indicate to the reader that both poems are about people wanting things that they can’t have and are so desperate that they dream about them. However there are differences between the two poems, for instance in the way the poems are written, because Island man has no punctuation apart from a capital letter on the first and last line and also on the first line in the section of poem that starts to describe the city of London. This could be to distinguish between the two different places described in the poem and then the last line of the poem where it shows how he is feeling about waking up for another London day when he really doesn’t want to. And also because in ‘Blessing’ they are longing for something which they need to survive (water), whereas in ‘Island Man’ he is desperate to go back to the island where he grew up and is precious to him however unlike the people in ‘Blessing’, he could actually live without the island, even though he may not want to, although you cant live without water.

Theme Essay Abandonment Antwone demonstrates difficulty forming relationships to abandonment issues he developed as a child. Antwone’s father left him after being shot by an ex-girlfriend. His mother was incarcerated most of his childhood and did not take him back after being released. His best friend Jesse was killed in front of him after a botched robbery. Antwone states his feelings that Jesse is the lucky one for being dead and not having to fight anymore. Abuse Mrs. Tate, Antwone Fisher’s foster mother, verbally humiliates Antwone calling him and his brothers â€Å"nigga† instead of their actual names.Antwone and his brothers buy into Tate's view of their low self worth to the point they can tell who she is talking to by the way she says â€Å"nigguh†. Besides the verbal abuse, Tate regularly beats Antwone and locks him in dark rooms for hours on end. When Antwone finally demonstrated resistance to Tate’s beatings she used what Antwone calls â €Å"other ways† by playing upon Antwone’s pyrophobia (fear of fire). Tate’s cruelty is further exposed when she refuses to let Antwone go out and accuses him of stealing money (which he intended to use to go out to a concert). Similar article: The Themes Of MaruAntwone denies the unfounded accusation and states he got the money raking lawns. Tate demands he give the money to her explaining that â€Å" a dumb nigguh like you wouldn’t know what to do with it. †Antwone is also sexually abused by Nadine Tate multiple times. He can only turn to his best friend Jesse to help him. The psychological effects demonstrate themselves as Antwone gets older by his inability to develop relationships with women (most particularly Cheryl). The abusive background leads to the rage Antwone feels as an adult who considers that the world conspires against him and that nothing good ever happens to him.Race The subject of race comes up multiple times in the film. The first is at the beginning of the film when Antwone feels a white sailor is mocking him for the way his face looks when he shaves. Another time is when Mrs. Tate points out that Antwone’s foster brother Keith is superior to him due to having a wh ite man for a father and being lighter-skinned. The lesson stays with Antwone to the point that he tells Davenport the order of adoption begins with light-skinned girls, then light-skinned boys, then dark-skinned girls, and dark-skinned boys being left for last.While Antwone waits in social services to obtain information about his parents, he notices advertisements for adoption. The viewer is then shown various posters of children who want to be adopted absent any dark-skinned boys. Antwone even calls a fellow sailor â€Å"an Uncle Tom† for his fraternizing with both white and black people despite the fact Antwone has white friends of his own. Psychiatry At the beginning of the film, Antwone and his fellow sailors mock psychiatry and call the psych house â€Å"the nut house. Antwone feels the profession is a foolish one and spends most of the first sessions refusing to acknowledge a problem and refusing to talk to Davenport. Eventually he relents and realizes the sessions ar e good for him. Antwone soon develops a dependence on the sessions and refuses to stop them because he believes Davenport is abandoning him just like everyone else had. Antwone also discusses his therapy sessions with Cheryl and understands if she wants to end their relationship because he’s â€Å"a nut. † Cheryl tells Antwone that her father (a Vietnam veteran) had also taken psychiatry and she felt there was nothing wrong with it.Healing The theme of healing is prevalent throughout the movie. Antwone feels enormous rage at being abandoned and feels that he is unwanted. He takes out this rage upon his fellow sailors in the Navy and is afraid to develop relationships (most notably with Cheryl). Davenport comments that Antwone is headed for a discharge, but Antwone seems largely indifferent. But through the guidance of Davenport, Antwone is able to open up and destroy the vicious cycle of self-destruction that he has fallen into.Antwone develops a bond of friendship wit h Davenport and a romantic relationship with Cheryl. At first, Antwone seems largely unconcerned with finding his family but eventually recognizes he needs to for closure to move on with his life. Finding his family brings the healing Antwone had sought and echoes his dream of sitting at a feast surrounded by loving family members (echoing the first scene of the film) with the little boy (referring to the poem â€Å"Who Will Cry For The Little Boy? â€Å") inside able to finally lay to rest.
