The Tragic Death Of Virginia Woolf - 1257 Words
There have been many tragic moments throughout the years, especially back when women werenââ¬â¢t treated unequally. Years have gone by and many women have fought for what they believed in which was equality between men and woman. In the 1920ââ¬â¢s there were two people that tragically lost their lives fighting for what they believed in and what they sought out for. Women in past didnââ¬â¢t have rights or a voice, so this lead for a difficult era for women to have an opinion in anything, but to cater to the man of house. Virginia Woolf was someone who died a tragic death. She was a writer who everyone else looked up to and inspired; she wanted to encourage the young women how they arenââ¬â¢t any different from men and have equal rights like anyone else. Virginia Woolf had the impression of anything that women say didnââ¬â¢t matter or made a difference. When it comes to women duties and men duties, neither of them should be doing the opposite. For example, in the past a womenââ¬â¢s sentence was her sentence and was considered different from a manââ¬â¢s sentence. Ms. Woolf believed it was wrong for women to like men, live like men, or look like men. Even though she didnââ¬â¢t think neither men nor women are better than one another, she believed that these two human beings were different in many ways. Her belief was that the neurotransmitter in men and women would give different frequencies and were very different when compared. With that being said, what is the difference of a man expressing his selfShow MoreRelatedEssay On Mrs Dalloway1021 Words à |à 5 Pagesin Mrs. Dalloway Virginia Woolfââ¬â¢s Mrs. Dalloway is a detailed day of a high society british woman named Clarissa Dalloway who is the host of a party. Creating Motivation Analysis of Google, Starbucks, and Whole Foods Essay Example
Creating Motivation: Analysis of Google, Starbucks, and Whole Foods Paper Abstract Starbucks, Whole Foods and Google are three Fortune 500 companies that exhibit unique loyalty by their employees and have developed non-traditional methods for increasing employee motivation. They have achieved this success in part because of their ability to communicate with their employees. It is because of this communication that they are able to motivate employees through intrinsic rewards. Creating Motivation: Analysis of Google, Starbucks, and Whole Foods Introduction Ralph Waldo Emerson said: Our chief want is someone who will inspire us to be what we know we could be. By championing new and innovative methods of employee motivation, companies are satisfying this need in their employees and inspiring new levels of achievement. Three Fortune 500 Companies that excel at employee motivation and are leaders in thinking outside of the box to achieve new levels of employee commitment and success are Whole Foods, Starbucks and Google. Each of these companies has a culture of motivation that includes using proven theories and models for motivation, but they are also pioneers in trying new techniques and proving new theories for obtaining employee inspiration and motivation. Whole Foods and Google seem to be especially aware of the need to customize and individualize programs for motivation and extrinsic rewards. Google helps accomplish this individualization by allowing each engineer in the company to take one day a week to work on a project of their choice (Rodriguez). This practice is perhaps the ultimate in individualization, not only allowing the employee to choose the project but allowing them the autonomy and independence to manage the choice and project. Starbucks on the other hand, has developed a completely customizable benefits package for employees (Starbucks). This commitment to customization and the realization that there is no true one size fits all provides a dedication to the company by employees who are unique and need unique solutions for their diverse benefits need. These varied approaches to employee needs, speak to the expectancy theory and provide for implications of individual need while driving instrumentality and reinforcing employeesââ¬â¢ belief that if one achieves given performance, they can expect the company to meet the expectation with unique rewards for the employee. Whole Foods also has many facets of their motivation plan that fulfill traditional theory and lead employees to work with the belief in valence and the understanding that efforts will be rewarded. Motivation and Organizational Culture In each of these three companies, employee motivation is practically imbedded within the companyââ¬â¢s respective cultures. Starbucks, Whole Foods, as well as Google have all been named to Fortune Magazineââ¬â¢s 2008 100 Best Companies to work for. Google ranked first, Starbucks seventh and Whole Foods sixteenth (Fortune). The annual ranking is derived through an extensive evaluation of company policies and culture and the opinions of the companys own employees. Two-thirds of the total score comes from employee responses to a 57-question survey answered by 400 randomly selected employees. Questions include attitudes toward management, job satisfaction and camaraderie. The remaining one-third of the score is based on an evaluation of each companys demographic makeup, pay and benefits programs, and culture. Companies are scored in five areas: credibility (communication to employees), respect (opportunities and benefits), fairness (compensation, diversity), pride (philanthropy), and camaraderie (celebrations) (Whole Foods). These companies have all ranked on Fortuneââ¬â¢s list multiple times and continuously move up the rankings. While, the ranking is not a sole indicator of employee motivation, the motivation of companyââ¬â¢s employees does make up a significant portion of the ranking. The culture of these companies is more stake-holder centric than that of most American companies in general. Each of these companies sees their employees as a key stakeholder and truly believes that people are their greatest assets. Whole Foods focuses on whole people and its mission is clear, ââ¬Å"our deepest purpose as an organization is helping support the health, well-being, and healing of both people ââ¬â customers, team membersâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (Whole Foods). Likewise, Google and Starbucks are people centric organizations where what is the norm in other companies is not acceptable in their company. Google Inc. puts employees first when it comes to daily life in its headquarters. Google stresses collaboration and equity in wall-less offices and spontaneous meetings. Starbucks is the hallmark of service and knowing the customer. ââ¬Å"We always figured that putting people before products just made good common sense. So far, itââ¬â¢s been working out for usâ⬠(Starbucks). This statement remains the focus of their business philosophy as well as the definition of their culture. Finding New Methods of Motivation Each of these companies has developed a reputation for re-inventing the way business is conducted in their respective industries as well as the nation as a whole. Similarly, Google, Starbucks, and Whole Foods have re-invented in ways how to motivate employees. By taking risks, trying new approaches, and truly getting to know their employees, these three companies have developed an arsenal of creative methods for motivating staff and achieving remarkable results. According to the work of Professor James Oakley at the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University, The best tool managers have for improving employee satisfaction is communicationâ⬠(Gallo). This fact is evidenced by Google, Starbucks and Whole Foods. Each company has embraced communication to not only build a more committed workforce but to also develop a motivation method that drives results. A few of the unconventional methods these companies have put in practice include focusing on the larger social issues that matter to employees. Google, because of communication with its workforce has discovered that a majority of its employees are concerned about the environment and interested in alternative fuels. Because of this recognition of who its workforce was and what they cared about, Google now offers grants to help offset the purchase of hybrid cars by employees as one part of itââ¬â¢s motivational plan (Batstone). In addition, Google now allows all engineers a ââ¬Ëfree dayââ¬â¢ each week to focus on a project of their choice (Rodriguez). This ââ¬Ëfree dayââ¬â¢ which was the result of communication with staff has lead to an innovation explosion at Google. This policy has not only benefited the company in exponential innovation, it has reduced burnout and led to motivated and happy engineers. Whole Foods is another example of motivation methods at work that are unconventional. Whole Foods, through its team approach allows each department to function entrepreneurially within the company framework. The company has each time ire and fire based on consensus, in part because bonuses are made collectively, at the team level. While team bonuses are not new, Whole Foods enables all team access to information and free communication across the company (Erickson Gratton). This access to information motivates team to find out the best practices at other markets and strive to win. In addition to information, the ability to manage your teamââ¬â¢s success and thus your own is a great motivator at Whole Foods. Likewise, Starbucks has reinvented motivation because of how it sees its employees. Howard Schultz, Starbucksââ¬â¢s Chairman and now C. E. O. has always had a vision, ââ¬Å"not to build a coffee shop, but instead to build a company that treats people with dignity and respectâ⬠(Gallo). This is especially important for Starbucks since, the only competitive advantage it has is the relationship it has built with its people and the relationship they have built with the customer (Gallo). Starbucks has done a remarkable job of elevating the customer experience, but this was done in part because the company elevated the employee experience. The training invested at Starbucks is not unique, except in that it instills in each team member five principles, and then makes them personal (Michelli). Principle number one at Starbucks is making it personal. This is not just a principle for employees to master; it is a principle that motivates. Employees are empowered to take ownership and make the store and the customers their own. That line that often exists in our society, where we donââ¬â¢t get past the superficial has been removed for Starbucks employees and they are encouraged to get to know those around them. Social barrier removal is motivating. Conclusion and Analysis Motivation in the workplace comes down to communication and ownership. Companies like Google, Starbucks, and Whole Foods are not leading companies simply because they have a great business model or good leaders; they are leading companies because they take the time to communicate with their employees. When management communicates with employees, then they can equip and empower employees, and that leads to innovation and success. The key facet of these companies success in motivating their employees has been the communication with employees. Financial incentives are extrinsic and short-lived. Human connection creates fulfillment and long-lasting change (Gallo). As a manager, oneââ¬â¢s role must be to inspire your employees every day to higher levels of achievement. The key with Google, Whole Foods, and Starbucks is not that they have abandoned extrinsic rewards but rather they have found a way to re-inforce, re-charge, and re-emphasize the intrinsic rewards that the work their employees complete brings. Employees are looking for a reason to get out of bed, show up for work, and enjoy what they are doing. While extrinsic rewards may bring some motivation it is short lived and produces only incremental results; however, intrinsic rewards create long term loyalty, motivation, and exponential results. Without communication, employees cannot obtain intrinsic rewards and employers cannot ensure that the opportunity for intrinsic rewards even exists. References Batstone, D. (2005, November). The Ultimate Gift
The Ultimate Gift Free Online Research Papers I have seen a lot of movies with different plots, themes and meanings, but the ââ¬Å"The Ultimate Giftâ⬠film by stood out among the others. It had a very special plot and took me a while to fully understand the meaning the film gave. The movie began with the funeral of Red Stevens, a very wealthy and successful entrepreneur. But it was interrupted by the loud engine of his grandson that showed up late, Jason Stevens. Jason a self centered person who has no respect for himself and his family. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and never had to work for anything in his life. Jason has a lot of hatred toward his grandfather because his father died in a plane crash working for Red and Jason blamed it on him After the funeral, the relatives of Red Stevens gathered in a room to hear the will and what they would receive. Red Stevens had four children, a daughter and three sons, but one of his sons, the father of Jason, died in a tragic accident. The lawyer reading the wil l is Redââ¬â¢s best friend that he met fifty years ago, Mr. Hamilton. As Mr. Hamilton began to read the will, the children of Red were anticipating receiving complete ownership of their fathers businesses, but were shocked to hear that they were only given salaries, not ownership. After hearing the disappointing news, they barged out of the room frustrated. Then once again, Jason shows up late to hear the will. Mr. Hamilton haves everybody in the room leave besides Jason. He tells Jason that his grandfather has a very special gift and plays a video of his grandfather. His grandfather tells Jason that he has been given everything and is taking the important things in life for granite. Red has set up a series of challenges for Jason; each challenge should teach him twelve very special gifts that will lead to the ultimate gift. The first gift that Red wanted Jason to learn was the gift of work. Since Jason had to never work a day in his life, he was sent to Texas to help one of Redââ¬â¢s friends, Gus, to help do some work on his ranch. When Jason arrived at Gusââ¬â¢s house, he thought it was a waste of his time. There was no TV, no cell-phone service and nothing but open land for fifty miles. The next day Gus woke up Jason at five oââ¬â¢ clock to begin his work on the ranch, but Jason called him crazy and went back to sleep. That was probably the first time he woke up that early in his life. When Jason finally got out of bed and got dressed in work clothes, Gus drove him out in the ranch to plant post. Gus showed him how to plant the post and told him they had to be even and eight feet apart from each other. When Jason finished setting up all the post he would be finished and will receive the gift his grandfather had for him. The first few days Jason did not work. Then Jason realized that maybe if he did the work he was supposed to do he would receive the gift. So Jason decided to plant the post. When he was finished, Gus came to see how he did. As soon as Gus saw the post he pulled them out and told him to do it again because the posts were uneven and not eight feet apart. Then the next day Gus walked down stairs to have breakfast and he sees Jason finishing up his plate. Gus was shocked to see Jason awake before him. After breakfast Jason was determined to the set posts correctly. He did not stop working until he finished the job which shows that Jason has the capability to accomplish his goals if he applies himself. After Gus sees Jasonââ¬â¢s finished work on the posts he congratulates him and told him he was finished here. Gus drove Jason to the airport and as soon as Jason got out of the car he asked Gus for the gift. Gus laughed and drove off. Jason returned to Mr. Hamiltonââ¬â¢s office and watched another video of his grandfather. The video told Jason that you can do anything if you work for it. After the video he started to complain that he had to physical labor and received nothing for doing it. After learning the gift of work Jason asked Mr. Hamilton what his next challenge was and he told Jason that he would find out. The next day Jason drove in the parking garage of his apartment. He went up stairs, opened his door and saw that everything inside his apartment was gone. He ran downstairs and saw a tow truck towing his car away. Jason went back to Mr. Hamiltonââ¬â¢s office and watched the next video from his grandfather. His grandfather said that he was the life of the party but he had no true friends. Mr. Hamilton told Jason to come back at the end of the month with one real friend and he would learn the gift of friendship. One night, Jason took out his girl friend to a very nice restaurant for dinner. When the bill came Jason gave the waiter his credit card. The waiter came back and told Jason that the credit card was rejected. He shrugged and pulled out another one of his many credit cards to pay the bill. But the waiter came back again and told Jason the same thing h e did before. Realizing that he couldnââ¬â¢t pay the bill because he was broke, Jason asked his girl friend to cover this dinner. She looked at Jason and felt insulted that he asked her to pay the bill and left. After dinner, Jason started calling his fake friends for a place to stay and some money, but everyone ignored him and hung up on him. Later that night Jason went to his motherââ¬â¢s house for a warm place to sleep. When his mother answered the door she denied him a place to stay because she was told not to. Jason wondered around the park and had no other option but to sleep on the bench in the park. The next day Jason met this little girl named Emily and her mother and acted ignorant towards them. He asked them if they could be his friends for a while to help him out and in return he would take them to Disney World. Emily called Jason pathetic and left. Emily and her mother return to the par the next day to eat lunch, but they were disturbed by a homeless man. Jason s ees that the homeless man is harassing Emily and her mother, so he gets the homeless man to leave them alone. In return for helping to get rid of the homeless man, Emily and her mother invite Jason to lunch. During lunch they talk about Jasonââ¬â¢s the challenges his grandfather has arranged for him to receive his part of the will. He tells them that he needs a true friend to come with him and they agree. Emily and her mother go with Jason to Mr. Hamiltonââ¬â¢s office. Mr. Hamilton was shocked to see that Jason has made a friend. After the meeting Emily told Jason to meet her at the same time tomorrow for lunch, but he laughed and walked away. Jason didnââ¬â¢t want to be friends with her; he used her to get him through to the next gift. The next video that Jasonââ¬â¢s grandfather talked about was the gift of money. Jason was given a bill for the work he did on Gusââ¬â¢s ranch and he was to spend it on someone with a real problem which is also the gift of giving. Jason goes out and heads to the park planning on giving some of his money to the homeless man that wonders around there. But when Jason finds the homeless man, he runs off and drops a womenââ¬â¢s purse. Jason goes over and looks through to see who it belongs to. He finds out that the purse belongs to Alexia, Emilyââ¬â¢s mother. While looking through the purse Jason saw bills that are from the apartment rent for large amounts due. So Jason went to the hospital to return her purse. He asked around for her and was sent to Emilyââ¬â¢s room. Jason walked in and saw Emily and noticed that she had a cancer because she had no hair. Shocked to see Emily with no hair, he placed the purse down and left the room. Leaving Emilyââ¬â¢s room, Jason ran in to Emilyââ¬â¢s mother. She asked why Jason was here but she saw the look in his eyes and new that he saw Emily. Jason asked what was wrong with Emily and Alexia told him that she had leukemia. Jason offered to help her pay their bills but she didnââ¬â¢t want his help. But Jason decides to donate the money to Emily and her mother to anyway. This shows that Jason can think about others besides himself. Jason returns to Mr. Hamiltonââ¬â¢s office and ask to see the next video of his grandfather right away. Mr. Hamilton plays the video. Red tells Jason that he should get the whole family together for Thanksgiving dinner for the gift of family. Red also says the best way to solve a problem is to confront it and the problem Jason has is his family and Jason will learn the gift of the problem. Jason immediately denies doing it but he has too. Instead of going by himself to Thanksgiving he decides to ask Alexia. He goes to the hospital and finds her there. They started to talk and Emilyââ¬â¢s mother said that someone paid her bills. She knew that Jason paid her bill and she told him thank you. That simple thank you she gave to Jason is an example of the gift of gratitude. Then Jason asked her to join him at Thanksgiving but she told him no because she wanted to spend the holiday with her daughter. Later that day Emily and her mother are reading in the hospital until Emily saw the s mirk on her motherââ¬â¢s face and asked her what was on her mind. Emily guessed that her mother was thinking about Jason. Her mother told her that Jason invited him to Thanksgiving dinner with his family but told him no because she wanted to spend it with her. But Emily wanted her mother to spend Thanksgiving with Jason and made her go with him. So Jason and Alexia went to Thanksgiving dinner at Jasonââ¬â¢s uncleââ¬â¢s house. During the dinner all the family talked about was money and who has the most. Jason grew tired of hearing his family and there selfishness and left. He realized that his family will never care about anything else besides money. To solve the problem in his family, Jason tells them that they are all pathetic. Another video is played for Jason. Red talks about learning and how Jason needs to learn to learn, he doesnââ¬â¢t know everything. There are more things in the world to learn besides knowing how to spend money. So Jason decides to visit a library that his grandfather owns in Ecuador. He flew down and met up with a tour guide. The tour guide took him to the village where the library was and Jason entered the library and started reading. Later that night some of the village people invited Jason to a bond fire in honor of Red Stevens. They shared stories and laughed most of the night. Jason learned the gift of laughter at this bond fire and learned how it feels to have a fun time without spending money and being surrounded by fake friends. The three gifts that Jason learned are the gift of love, laughter and the gift of the day. The best example I saw during the movie when Jason expressed these gifts was the day he dedicated to Emily. Jason grew very close to Emily and Alexia over the months. Since Jason missed Christmas because of some series of unfortunate events, he wanted to make it up to Emily and Alexia. He flew Emily and Alexia out to Texas for a surprise. When they got there, they drove to Gusââ¬â¢s ranch to see his yard covered with snow and his house lighten up with lights. During the day Jason did everything that Emily wanted to do. One of the activities that Emily did was go horseback riding. While horse back riding Jason told Alexia that he didnââ¬â¢t know that Emily liked horses. Alexia started to cry and said she doesnââ¬â¢t like horses; sheââ¬â¢s the one who does. This touched me to see a girl of her age show so much love and unselfishness towards her mother. Later that night, Jason and Emil y were sitting on the couch by the fire talking. Emily told Jason that she wanted her mother to have someone after she passes away and wanted Jason to be that someone. Jason then asked Emily what her dream was and she told him that her dream was to have a perfect day and that she was just finishing it. Even though Jason didnââ¬â¢t have any dreams for himself, he helped someone who really needed it to complete their dreams and make the last day of her the life the best day. Emily dies the next day in the hospital of her cancer. Jason felt a lot of pain when she passed because that was his best friend, his real friend. She accepted him as a friend for who he is, not the number of credit cards he has. At the end of the year Jason came in to watch the last video of his grandfather. Red told Jason that he was sorry for everything he has done to him and hopes that what he learned over the year will help him live a more spiritual life. Red tells Jason good bye and thatââ¬â¢s the last Jason will hear from his grandfather. At that moment, Jason felt bad that he acted like a moron towards his grandfather and wishes he could take it back. Jason shows the first sign of love towards his grandfather when he cries at the end of the video. As said Jason would receive a prize if he succeeded his grandfatherââ¬â¢s challenges. Mr. Hamilton gave Jason an envelope; Jason opened it, and found a one million dollar check and was given control of his entire grandfatherââ¬â¢s estate. Jason decides to build a cancer center for those who are diagnosed with cancer. He called it Emilyââ¬â¢s home. All the gifts that were taught equal up to answer the question what is the Ultimate gift. The answer is that there is no correct answer; all the gifts are needed to live with a complete soul. Antigone Essay Example for Free (#3)
Antigone Essay Essay Topic: Oedipus Choose cite format: APA MLA Harvard Chicago ASA IEEE AMA company About StudyMoose Contact Careers Help Center Donate a Paper Legal Terms & Conditions Privacy Policy Complaints Evil not only fascinates people in general, but writers as well. In what ways and with what effect has ââ¬Å"evilâ⬠been treated in Antigone? In the play of ââ¬ËAntigoneââ¬â¢, evil appears in many forms. There is the soldier who is a traitor to his nation; the sister trying to prove her love for her family yet ends up breaking the law; the king who so eagerly tries to stop rule-breakers yet he himself neglects his flesh and blood. Here the difference of the two works is seen: The Earth of Mankind gives the impression that characters of power possess evil, whereas in Antigone, evil can be inside all of these opposing individuals. Polyneices, a soldier who fought against his own nation was to be punished as a traitor by not burying him after his death. When his sister, Antigone, goes against the Kingââ¬â¢s decree and burry Polyneices, she was also seen as a traitor to her country. However their other sibling, Ismene, who sits at home as Antigone fights for her brotherââ¬â¢s right, is also said to have performed a crime of being a traitor to her family. Now something we can see from here is that each and every character involved in the story so far possesses evil. This message is summed up by Sophocles in page 204 of the book, in Ode 1, where it says, ââ¬ËO fate of man, working both good and evil! ââ¬â¢ What the writer is trying to convey here is more realistic than what is said in ââ¬ËThe Earth of Mankindââ¬â¢; both evil and good is naturally inside everyoneââ¬â¢s mind. It is oneââ¬â¢s choice to do which, but performing a crime is inevitable. Everyone has his or her own ââ¬Ëevilââ¬â¢ deeds, not only the powerful ones. As seen in my previous explanation on who performs evil deeds in the play of ââ¬ËAntigoneââ¬â¢, we can see that one evil act leads to another, whereas the chain of good doings ends sooner. Eteocles, who was a soldier and a brother to Antigone, fought bravely for his nation and was buried with honor by the King. Although many respect him for his virtuosity, the play didnââ¬â¢t show that further kindness was done because of him. However, when Polyneices betrays his nation and fought against it, a number of people are forced to perform evil in his affect. Antigone had to break the law in order to give him his right of getting a burial. Ismene, who was too scared to go against the decree, was said to be a traitor to her family, as she didnââ¬â¢t come to assist Antigone in her mission. They then cause Creon to imprison the sisters, punish them, which then cause him to have a fight with his son. Creon then causes death of Haimon, and therefore leads to the suicide of the Queen. On page 243, the messenger says, ââ¬Ëâ⬠¦and her last breath was a curse for their father, the murderer of her sons. ââ¬â¢ A number of misfortunes occur as being the result of one act of evil. The play now gives the effect that evil gives more negative outcomes in comparison to good giving positive results. Here, evil is powerful enough to make such a big impact on its surrounding; bigger than the good. Creon sees Antigone as a traitor to his rules, despite her reasons. Creon imprisoned both Antigone and Ismene for the burial of the nationââ¬â¢s traitor, Polyneices, who is their brother. It is true that Antigone has broken the law, but according to her logic, it is more important to follow the rules of the Gods than the King. She feels that the dead, no matter what they did in their lives, deserve respect and be buried, and that it was her duty to do so as Polyneicesââ¬â¢ sister. She didnââ¬â¢t care that she is breaking the decree, and may be punished to die, as long as this task is done. Creon, being a non-believer of the Gods in the beginning, thinks that breaking the law is crime, no matter for what purpose. Polyneices was a traitor and he suffers because of himself, thus no one should help him. On page 211, Creon even said to Antigone, ââ¬ËAn enemy is an enemy, even dead. ââ¬â¢ There is truth in both arguments, and no one can say what is right. Here, the play depicts that the existence of evil depends on how one views it. ââ¬ËAntigoneââ¬â¢ treats evil as a subjective topic, where it may be seen as a crime from one point of view, but is actually a good deed from another. No evil deed is done without a reason, and the play shows that one should explore, not only what crime has been done, but also why it was done. Antigone. (2018, Nov 02).

The Issue and Challenge of E-commerce in B2C Business Essay
The Issue and Challenge of E-commerce in B2C Business - Essay Example The example of B2C can be the selling of the shoes to an end customer. Though, buying those shoes from a retailer or buying leather for the shoes refers to B2B. When suppliers cooperate with a business, or wholesalers sell to retailers ââ¬â these are all the examples of business-to-business activity. We are living in the era of high technologies as well as computerization. No wonder, that approximately 50% of the B2C world turnover can be ascribed to e-commerce. The term refers to any commercial operation that is carried out in the Web. It also pertains to ââ¬Å"any form of business transaction in which the parties interact electronically rather than by physical exchanges or direct physical contactâ⬠(Allen, 2001). The procedure of trading on-line is not as easy as it may seem ââ¬â it covers many rules, activities, laws and creativity. To put it another way e-commerce is a kind of science that is to be studied in order to be effective and bring results. Despite the grow ing popularity of the Internet sales and therefore of e-commerce, the latter has many pitfalls and bottlenecks that can lead to the reduction of the customersââ¬â¢ number. This essay aims to analyse the challenges of e-commerce in B2C. It is very important to investigate this problem since 80% of all operations on-line belong to the B2C ones. The rest 20% make up the wholesale, some financial services, and operations at a Stock Exchange. This topic was chosen because of its importance nowadays and because of its ââ¬Ëunder-researchââ¬â¢. It means that not many scientists penetrated into this problem. The first cause for this is the relative youth of the Internet and e-commerce itself. The second reason is that trading on-line, as mentioned above is not considered to be a kind of science in a business world. It is considered to be the way to earn money, or the way to gain new customers. Studying this topic will empower anyone in future to apply this knowledge on practice and carry out the profitable e-commerce. It must be emphasized that e-commerce has become an essential part of B2C, though there are many challenges that are to be taken into account. Notion of B2C ââ¬Å"Business-to-consumer (B2C, sometimes also called Business-to-Customer) describes activities of businesses serving end consumers with products and/or servicesâ⬠(Baker 2010). Speaking about selling through the Internet it is to be mentioned that here B2C means selling goods that are bought by a customer for his own use. The brightest example of e-commerce B2C in the Internet is the site of Amazon. It is the electronic bookstore that was founded in 1995 and since that time became the world main book retailers. Others examples of B2C on-line can include traveling services, web-money, real-estates services and any information that can be used by a customer. Such sites as Facebook, Tweeter and others also represent the example of B2C. They do not sell anything but suggest communication on-line that is also consumed by a customer. E-commerce has not always been as effective as it is now. In 2000 when the company Nasdaq, that maintained the majority of on-line operations failed, the most of the e-commerce firms had to do away with their selling on-line. They had to shift to a more traditional way of carrying out B2C activity. That year some experts claimed that e-commerce would never restore its reputation since it endangered the private information about the clients. Despite the

The Courthouse Hotel Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
The Courthouse Hotel - Essay Example At the Courthouse Hotel, individuals in management positions felt that there were no opportunities for further achievement. For this reason, turnover rates at the Courthouse Hotel are high. Turnover in this form is detrimental to the entire morale of the organisation. Staff witness unsatisfied co-workers quitting their jobs because of the assumption that in terms of personal avenues for success, the company is a dead-end. As a consequence, the entire group suffers lack of confidence in the organisation. The Courthouse Hotel has poor retention rates. People resourcing and hiring practises are faulty and disordered. Staff persons are employed on an as-needed basis, which means the hotel uncertainly staffed, insufficiently prepared for business or anticipated business growth. As the current people resourcing practise stands, the hotel will not succeed. Hiring procedures will not meet the needs of a sixty percent growth in trade. In terms of staff already employed by the hotel, these employees show no little satisfaction with their jobs. Employees ponder the improved flexibility and conditions offered by the national and international hotel chains in town. Facing company change, the new business owner should fear leave-taking. Unless assured of their future success with the Courthouse Hotel, the current staff will leave before the fruits of renovations are encountered. The acute fault of peo... II. Recommendations A). Management Strategy Based upon the observed framework of the old hotel and the future needs of the renovated hotel, staff stability must be fortified. Considering the anticipated sixty percent growth of trade, the continuation of present employees is desired for sheer capatown of staff. The strategy suggested to the new owner of the Courthouse Hotel is the Ashridge Mission Model (. This model comes from the Cultural School of Strategic Management, teaching that the organisation must function as a cohesive unit, succeeding internally as well as externally (Mintzberg 2005). The company mission is a strategic tool to provide unity of direction and confidence of staff. The strengths of the Ashridge Mission Model counter the defects of the Courthouse Hotel. Pertaining to Stability of Tenure, the 'Mission' of the model is intended to motivate staff to excellent performance, thereby instilling confidence in their position. Pertaining to Unity of Direction, or the inaccessibility of staff feeling was inaccessible to all staff, the Ashridge model's strength is in its Mission Statement. The Mission Statement "provides a sense of direction" and is intended to "refocus an organisation during crises."(Ashridge) Although reorganisation is not a crisis, the incapatown of the current management to facilitate change while reinforcing staff morale is an acute predicament. The shared values provide unity among employees and improve their Espirit de Corps. The value in using this model to restrategise people resourcing is clear. Employees have reason to lack morale and confidence in their management team, also confidence that they will retain their jobs. The have little motivation to do so.
